HOUSTON, TX -- Swarthmore’s Landry Kosmalski is the 2023 recipient of the Glenn Robinson Award, presented annually to the top Division III basketball coach.
Kosmalski led Swarthmore to an impressive 28-4 record and a trip to the Division III Final Four.
“Coach Kosmalski is a big believer in the power of positive psychology and his team did a lot of positive things this season,” said Joe Dwyer, President of CollegeInsider.com. “Landry was a terrific player for Bob McKillop at Davidson, and he is proving to be an even better head coach. He has turned Swarthmore into a perennial contender. Remember the name, Landry Kosmalski.”
Swarthmore began the season unranked but checked in at No. 24 on Dec. 11 (D3hoops.com). The Garnett spent the rest of the season in the Top 25, climbing as high as No. 7.
Swarthmore won the Centennial Conference Championship with a 16-2 mark. Kosmalski’s team went on to post wins over SUNY Delhi, St. John Fisher, Nichols College, and No. 5 Keene State, before falling to No. 2 Christopher Newport in the national semifinals.
With the exception of the 2021 season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Landry Kosmalski has had Swarthmore qualify for the NCAA tournament, every year since 2017 ascending to the Elite Eight round in 2018, the finals in 2019, and the Sweet Sixteen in 2020.
Among the notable stats, the Garnett finished unbeaten at home with an 18-0 record.
The Glenn Robinson Award is named in honor of the legendary Franklin & Marshall head coach.
The winningest coach in Division III history, Robinson won his 900th game on Jan. 9, 2016. He’s the second Division III coach to spend 1,000 games on the sidelines.
Robinson directed the Diplomats to 23 NCAA tournament appearances, 42 tournament victories, 16 trips to the Sweet 16 and Final Four visits in 1979, 1991, 1996, 2000 and 2009.
Even more remarkable, Franklin & Marshall was 22-43 in his first three seasons and in the last 45 years, all but three players have earned their degree.
